This course aims to provide a sound understanding of the techniques used locate and avoid underground apparatus on the Highway. It complies with the mandatory requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
For those employed in carrying out work on the highway who are required to locate underground apparatus.
To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
Interpret and understand plans showing location of underground apparatus.
Identify and understand how to identify types of utilities apparatus and highways services encountered during excavation.
Identify and understand the risks and implications of damage to underground utilities apparatus and highway services.
Use pipe and cable location equipment.
Teaching methods include:
Theoretical training and assessment.
Practical training and assessment.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive multiple City and Guilds (C&G) Certificates and a Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR) Card.
