NCO Level 2 Service Layer Self Lay Water CABWI

Overview

The CABWI Level 2 Diploma in Network Construction Operations (Water) - Service Layer allows the leaner to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required by service layers working in the water industry, whose role it is to install water mains on the distribution network.

This competence-based qualification covers the underpinning knowledge and practical skills required to install water services on the distribution network. The qualification covers the technical network construction skills required for service layer, including health, safety and hygiene, and also includes requirements relating to working effectively and maintaining effective working relationships. Learners must produce workplace evidence to show that they can meet the assessment requirements consistently over time.

Duration

8 days - training room/practical training.
2-3 days - work based assessment.
Portfolio of evidence to be carried out by the candidate with support from the trainer.

Suitable For

The qualification can be used to up-skill existing staff. It is also one of the Level 2 qualifications that may be taken by apprentices working on the SASE apprenticeship framework for The Water Industry.

Aims

  • All learners must complete the following 9 mandatory units:

  • Create and efficient and effective environment in utilities network construction.
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment in water network construction.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships in utilities network construction.
  • Install equipment for safe working on site for utilities network construction.
  • Locate and avoid supply apparatus for utilities network construction.
  • Excavate and maintain holes and trenches for utilities network construction.
  • Operate powered tools and equipment for routine and predictable requirements on utilities network construction.
  • Install water mains up to 50mm nominal bore or 63mm polyethylene.

    Learners may take the following units, but they do not contribute to the achievement to the full certificate:

  • Reinstate excavation and pavement surfaces after utility network construction operations.
  • Joint materials by electrofusion processes on utilities network construction.
  • Restore water network components to operational condition by repair.

Pre-Requisites

There are no entry requirements for this qualification. However, as there is a requirement for the learners to provide evidence from workplace activities, the learner must be working in the water industry and undertaking service laying activities on a regular basis.

Teaching Methods

  • Teaching methods include:

  • Theoretical and practical training.
  • Assessment (conducted using a portfolio of evidence and on-site assessments).

Outcome

Upon successful completion of this course, candidates will receive a CABWI certificate.
