A member of our team will be in contact to discuss your requirements
This course aims to ensure candidates are aware of the potential risks involved in working in confined spaces against the National Occupational Standard (NOS). Candidates will receive a realistic experience using our purpose built confined space training complex.
This course is suitable for candidates who are new to the industry or looking to develop their skills. Candidates may be working in various roles such as an Underground Engineer, Water Jetter or a Waste Treatment Plant Operator.
Working in confined spaces exposes an individual to a multitude of potential hazards, some of which threaten injury and, in some instances, death. It follows then that specialist training and assessment is required to equip those undertaking work in these environments with the necessary skills and competencies to assess risks, control hazards and perform respective work in a safe mode.
The two defining features of a confined space, according to regulation, are:
The space is enclosed
The presence of a specified risk
Upon identifying a confined space a person(s) must undertake a risk assessment to determine the nature of specified hazards that could be encountered and the probability of encountering them. This will then lead to the classification of the confined space at low, medium or high risk and trigger the use of equipment and procedures appropriate to the confined space environment.
A high risk confined space is defined as non-standard entries involving complex operations which introduce additional risks and require specific controls and rescue arrangements e.g. mechanical hazards, physical complexity of system introduced hazards, enhanced specific intrinsic hazards. Any candidate who is successful in the High Risk course is automatically covered for Medium and Low Risk environments.
To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
Prepare to enter and work safely in high risk confined spaces
Enter and exit confined spaces safely
Prepare and use RPE in accordance with manufacturers specifications (emergency escape breathing device, self-contained breathing apparatus)
Use equipment and tools safely and in accordance with manufactures instructions (e.g. gas monitors, tripod, winch and harness)
Follow procedures and work safely
Deal with emergencies
Use appropriate behaviour for working in high risk confined spaces
Use appropriate industry knowledge for working in high risk confined spaces
Apply relevant industry standards for working in high risk confined spaces
Teaching methods include:
Theoretical training and assessment.
Practical training and assessment.
Upon successful completion of this course you will recieve a City and Guilds certificate.
I am writing to express our whole-hearted gratitude for the hospitality you Company provided on the recent High Risk Confined Space and Rescue course. The professionalism and patience shown from the initial interest to final booking was very much appreciated. The extra time put in by Expedient was certainly worthwhile and hopefully provided the foundations for a continual business association. It was a privilege for our team to work with such a dedicated civilian company who tailored the course to suit our needs.
Such service and rapport builds great working relationships, I will certainly be recommending Expedient for any similar training requirements through my Chain of Command.
The Confined Space course that myself and my colleagues attended at your training centre was very well received by all, we found it well delivered and the practical sessions were especially pertinent to our future operational duties. During the course the trainer took the time to review the method and risk assessments I had written for the job we were soon to start. On our first entry into a real life confined space all the training delivered by Expedient Training came into play all too soon as we had a real life emergency evacuation. We realised from that point on the value of good training.
I would not hesitate to recommend Expedient to any of my colleagues. Thank you for a great service, keep it up!
The feeling from the workforce has been expressed on a number of occasions commenting upon the high quality of the training not to mention the skill and expertise of the various trainers they have had the pleasure of working under. I have always found your staff friendly, professional and very flexible to to our requirements and would not hesitate in recommending your training centre to others. The facilities for Confined Spaces training are second to none and as a result have left lasting impressions upon our manual employees, bringing instantly to them for the need for strict safety procedures and techniques. Your training staff are very accommodating and able to tailor the training to meet specific service requirements. I look forward to our continued training partnership for many years to come.
Expedient staff always try to go the extra mile to assist with any late or urgent training requests that we might have. I have always received great feedback and assistance from staff at Expedient while trying to arrange any courses. Thank you!
Everything from my initial enquiry to the booking has been dealt with professionally and every member of the team I have spoken with has been very friendly and have gone over and above to meet my training needs.
Claire and all her team, in particular Maria, made our annual training event a success. Delivering 15 different courses , over 2 weeks for 21 staff is a huge task. No request was too difficult and all our training aims and objectives for this year were met. The feedback from our staff has been all positive. This has been the fourth successful year of training with Expedient and we intend to carry on using their services in the future. Many thanks for making the very complicated training programme a success.
