Overhead Crane Novice

Overview

This course is designed to give candidates the necessary theoretical and practical skills to enable them to safely operate Overhead Cranes.

Suitable For

Anyone wishing to gain an Overhead Crane certificate who has no previous knowledge or experience.

Pre-Requisites

None

Aims

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • A basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and responsibilities as an operator
  • A working knowledge of the manufactures handbook for the particular machine to be used
  • The ability to locate and identify major components of the machine and explain their functions
  • The ability to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
  • Setting up an exclusion zone
  • Identifying and maintaining PPE appropriate for overhead crane use
  • Conducting all pre-operational and running checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
  • Preparing the overhead crane for use and operate the machine safely and efficiently
  • Environmental considerations
  • Carry out all end of work and shut down procedures
