Appointed Person Lifting Operations Novice

Overview

This course is designed to give candidates the understanding of the appointed persons responsibilities and how to fulfil them.

5 days (8 hours per day)

Suitable For

This course is suitable for candidates who will be responsible for the planning of lifting operations using mobile cranes.

Pre-Requisites

Candidates must have sufficient experience of cranes to meet the requirements specified in the British Standards 7121 Safe Use of Cranes. Candidates will be profiled before the course start date to ensure they have suitable experience to attend.

Aims

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Observe regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Follow safe systems of work including method statements
  • Take personal responsibility
  • Describe different types of cranes and associated terminology
  • Understand crane documentation
  • Understand crane stability, duty charts and safety devices
  • Appreciate tower cranes
  • Observe British Standard 7121
  • Recognise the role of appointed persons
  • Plan a lift
