Paediatric First Aid

Overview

This course will enable candidates to provide first aid effectively to young people (under the age of 18) if they have sustained an accident or become ill with a medical emergency or minor illness.

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • Deal with accidents-how and what type occur
  • Unconscious casualty - adult/child/infant
  • Resuscitation - adult/child/infant
  • Causes of unconsciousness
  • Dealing with blood loss and shock
  • Burns and scalds
  • Electric shock
  • Medical emergencies
  • Anaphylaxis and allergens
  • Foreign bodies
  • Recognition and management of fractures
  • Administration of medication
  • Epi-pen administration
  • Contents of the first aid kit
  • Recording and reporting
