Automated External Defibrillation

This course provides candidates with the knowledge and skills to respond in emergency situation involving the use of basic life support and automated external defibrillation.

Anyone wishing to undertake automated external defibrillator training

Pre-Requisites

None, however it is First Aid knowledge is recommended

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

  • DRSABC check and sending for help
  • Unconscious casualty
  • Resuscitation-adults
  • Chain of survival
  • Introduction to the machine
  • Practical use of machine and application of pads
  • Voice prompts and appropriate responses
  • CPR and use of AED on casualty
  • General guidelines for using a defibrillator
  • Protocols and candidate practice
  • Special circumstance
  • Hand over to emergency services
  • Practical exercises
